Hyphema: Bleeding in the eye caused by trauma

Matt Garratti, a paramedic from New York, moves his wife and son to North Carolina to work at his dream job as a flight medic. Pakistani born Sudah, his wife, receives frosty stares and insensitive comments from their new neighbors. Before long, Matt wonders if he is pursuing his dream or bringing his family into a nightmare from which they may never wake.

Editorial Reviews

In Hyphema, author Chelle Cordero meets headlong a number of real problems facing her characters. She doesn’t sugar-coat cultural differences and prejudice. The series of incidents and the deaths faced by Matt and Sudah cause them to face these problems and gives the love story a depth well-done. —Janet Lane Walters

Ms. Cordero tackles such amazingly current topics-hate, prejudice, fear of the different, with such enjoyable, suspenseful, and well-researched background, that this reader will be following her closely to see what she writes next. Each medical scene resonates with reality, and each chapter flows into the next with a flutter in the pit of the stomach for what is coming, as well as what has been. —

LOCAL ROMANCE AUTHORS SHOWCASED AT BARNES & NOBLE YONKERS

YONKERS—Five area local romance writers will be appearing at Barnes & Noble’s “Local Romance Night” event Sunday, February 7th at the book retailer’s Yonkers location.

“Barnes & Noble is very proud to produce our first Local Romance Night.  This type of community event is more than just signing and selling books,” said Martie Ripson, Community Relations Manager.  “We’re shining our spotlight on local talent whose published works might otherwise go unnoticed.”

This event also benefits those who are looking to get published. “People considering writing a book can learn from these published authors who have taken that first big step,” Evans said.  “These authors can relay the triumphs and pitfalls of reaching that plateau while it’s still a fresh experience.  Where else can you get this kind of invaluable advice first-hand?”

Local published authors who will be signing books, answering questions and promoting general discussions include Chelle Cordero (Hostage Heart), Sara Taney-Humphreys (The Amoveo Legacy), Janet Lane Walters (All Our Yesterdays), Charmaine Gordon (To Be Continued), and Kathleen Kubik (Neither Sand Nor Sea).

The event will begin at 7:00pm at the Barnes & Noble store located at 2614 Central Park Avenue, Yonkers, New York.  Admission is free.
