Have you visited my Potpourri Parlor? I enjoy interviewing other authors and business people.
I thought I might turn the tables, so to speak, and let my readers know a little more about me as well.
Using a random number generator and a list of interview questions from my editor, I’ve been “interviewing” myself for a few weeks…
Has someone been instrumental in inspiring you as a writer?
I have been extremely fortunate through the years of being surrounded by supportive people. Starting in high school when I had a teacher named Daisy Aldan who encouraged creativity and through today with my family and my publisher. I’ve also known a terrific group of authors who have shared this writing life with me and bolstered me when I am down.
How did you start your writing career?
My very first published piece outside of school yearbooks and stuff was a news article about a young (16 yrs old) man who died while trying to help a mugging victim in the NYC subway system. Det. Hank Spallone (52nd pct) asked me to write up the article to accompany a posthumous ceremony in this teen’s honor; the article was printed in a Bronx weekly paper. I received no monetary payment but seeing my byline in print was a heady feeling. After that I dabbled but did not submit anything until many years later when I was expecting my first child. I connected with a few giveaway pubs and built a resume, eventually I found paying gigs and even better I found publishers for my novels.
What historical time period is your favorite? Why?
I like contemporary stories simply because I can relate to those best.

What is going on with your writing these days?
Vanilla Heart Publishing just recently published a collection of short stories, The Many Faces of Chelle Cordero. And I am looking forward to the release on September 15 of my first paranormal suspense novel Karma Visited.
Do you work on more than one novel at a time?
I’m usually loyal to one novel at a time, however I often have several writing projects I am working on. I am a full time free-lance writer and write non-fiction for several newspapers and magazines on a regular basis. You can check out some samples here. I also write a weekly writing “lesson” for an Amazon Kindle blog.
Does travel play in the writing of your books?
I have been to some fascinating and memorable places and I try to incorporate some nice places onto my writing. If I haven’t been someplace personally though I do a lot of online research and speak to folks who have been to these places. Nowadays we can visit many of the highlights of tourist-y areas virtually, it’s a great way to know if it’s someplace we would like to visit in person and it’s a terrific tool for writers.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned while writing your books?
I was surprised to learn two things – the first is that I am very comfortable writing from the hero’s perspective and the 2nd, was in my earlier novels, I sent all of my heroes to the hospital, lol.
For new readers—what can they expect when they read your book(s)?
Readers can expect to read about real people, sometimes fallible, sometimes emotional but always human. I like it when my characters become so real that basically they write their own story.
What are your favorite TV shows?
I find I watch far too much TV these days. I dislike most of the reality shows but I do like watching shows like Castle, Perception, Blue Bloods and Grimm.
